The kickoff for the 2009 FIRST High School Robotics Program will be held January 3rd at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

On March 5 - 7, over 30 teams from the Rochester area and beyond will come to RIT to compete their robots in a regional event. There are now over 40 such regional events in the world.

A cablecast of the event will be available to Time Warner Cable Channel 4 TV subscribers of any level in Rochester, New York and nearby suburbs.

Now in its 4th year, the Finger Lakes Region hosts many annual robotics events and provides strong partnerships with schools and students as well as many area corporations and sponsors.

This site offers information that is specific to newly-formed teams and sponsors. It provides details about the annual FIRST Regional Competition and general information about FIRST.

FIRST has three main sub-programs.
  • The FIRST Robotics Program (FRC) is targeted at high-school-aged teams to provide an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way.

  • The FIRST LEGO™ League Program (FLL) is considered the "little league" of the FIRST Robotics Competition, and extends the FIRST concept of inspiring and celebrating science and technology to children aged 9 through 14.

  • Finger Lakes Regional FIRST LEGO™ League Program

  • The Junior FIRST LEGO™ League Program (JFLL) is an exciting opportunity for the youngest budding scientists (ages 6 through 9). It encompasses the core concepts of all FIRST programs to inspire, excite, and introduce kids to the wonders of science, technology, and engineering.

  • The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a mid-level robotics competition targeted toward high-school aged students. It offers the traditional challenge of a FIRST competition but with a more accessible and affordable robotics kit.

FIRST works closely with research and academic organizations to provide tangible evidence of our impact on students' education and career choices. For more detailed information about FIRST, click on
