Welcome to t
he world of FIRST and the Finger Lakes - Upstate New York Region

This site offers information about the annual FIRST Finger Lakes Regional Competition and general information about FIRST.

The kickoff for this year's FIRST High School Robotics Program will be held January 7th 2011 at The Theater on the Ridge at Eastman Business Park. On March 8 - 10, 2012 over 40 teams from the Rochester area and beyond will come to RIT to compete their robots in a regional event. There are now over 45 such regional events in the world.

FIRST has three main sub-programs.

The FIRST Robotics Program (FRC) is targeted at high-school-aged teams to provide an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way.

The FIRST LEGO™ League Program (FLL) is considered the "little league" of the FIRST Robotics Competition, and extends the FIRST concept of inspiring and celebrating science and technology to children aged 9 through 14.

The Junior FIRST LEGO™ League Program (JFLL) is an exciting opportunity for the youngest budding scientists (ages 6 through 9). It encompasses the core concepts of all FIRST programs to inspire, excite, and introduce kids to the wonders of science, technology, and engineering.

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a mid-level robotics competition targeted toward high-school aged students. It offers the traditional challenge of a FIRST competition but with a more accessible and affordable robotics kit.

FIRST works closely with research and academic organizations to provide tangible evidence of our impact on students' education and career choices. For more detailed information about FIRST, click on "About FIRST".
